So thankful you are here

I am Sue

I am a Melbourne lifestyle family, motherhood and newborn photographer and videographer.

Just like you, I am a mom first.  I have three kids, a shy and emotional girl, a cute but “can’t make up his mind” toddler and an angel baby. My firstborn was born at 32 weeks very sick and spent her short 5 months of her life in NICU and eventually grew wings. That experience has made me treasure photos and memories so much. In fact, she’s the reason why I rediscovered the love of preserving memories for my family and yours. Tangible memories matter especially when your loved one is no longer here.

I love observing love and connection between parents and their children. Seeing the love you have of your children is what I want to capture and preserve for you. I tend to infuse mindfulness, presence, yoga and breathing into your session.

I understand the stress of getting everyone ready, and worrying about kids not cooperating. I hear you! I have a way to get your kids to love me at the end, I will play, talk and tune in to them. I have got you.

Family life is so fleeting. Let me photograph you with your kids!

“Don’t wait until you have experienced the loss of a loved one to have professional photos done. Let me capture your family NOW.”

 FAQs

  • Please don't worry, I don't expect kids to stay still or cooperative throughout the whole session. They have short attention span and it's only normal. Usually we would stop for a break as your kids could possibly be hungry and restless. During that time, I could shoot mom's self portraits. I am great at adapting to different situations and I do have tricks up my sleeve to get kids engaged and play with me as I shoot. Usually I will send a short questionnaire to get to know your family and kids before the session so that i know what are their favourite toys, books or songs.

  • If it's an indoor home session, we can continue with our session as I can work with any type of light as long as there are windows. For outdoor session, we can postpone it to another date at no extra charge, as I do want my families to be comfortable and enjoy themselves. We can still proceed if it's a cloudy and overcast day as my intention is always to capture the emotions, feelings, magical moments of you interacting with your kids.

  • I encourage you to wear clothes that you love and feel comfortable in. If you need some guidance on how to style your family, here are some of my inspiration for you.

    For indoor and outdoor session:

Moms, I will start with you. I would pick your favourite outfit, a pretty dress that you feel good in, or this is a perfect excuse for you to buy a beautiful outfit for yourself. Based on the colours of your outfit, you can coordinate it with your loved ones. Everyone doesn't need to match, like wearing all white, or all black. It would be nice to have different patterns, textures, colours for every family member.

In-home/Indoor session: i find that neutral, earthy, lighter coloured clothing looks best for indoor photos. Textures and patterns are encouraged as long it's not too overwhelming as we do not want to clothing to draw attention away from you. Also, try to avoid clothing with logos and too bright colours like red for newborns as it gives a red colour cast on skintones

For outdoor: I have a lot of my outdoor photo sessions in nature with green foliage, thus complementary colours like orange and red will work well to stand out. Nuetral, earthy apparal work well as well if you prefer natural and minimalized look.

Another option is that you could consider renting a dress! I am a preferred photographer with Mama Rentals and they have a beautiful collection of dresses and gowns suitable for maternity, family and newborn session. They also have a kids range for your kids as well. Mama Rentals are offering all my clients 15% discount off the cost of your dress rental. Please do check them out if you are struggling to find something to wear for your session.

You can check out their website by clicking on this link: Mama Rentals

  • Only immediate family can be included in the photography session. If you have extended family and would like a family photo session, it will be an additional $100 as i would need more time to ensure i get all the various family groupings.

  • It is during golden hour, which is one hour after the sun rises and one hour before the sun sets. The timing varies depending on the seasons, during autumn months, the sun sets earlier and thus golden hour starts from 5pm to 6pm. I understand that the evening golden hour may be difficult for babies and toddlers, however, this magical hour will be so worth it. A good tip for parents would be to try to get their kids to nap a bit later during the day or have some quiet time. Most of the kids are excited to be able to go out during that time and the fact that they are in nature, it calms them down. Trust me, the golden bokehs, and sun flares will be so worth it even if you need to change their routine for just one day.

  • It's good to have them done under 2 weeks, as we can get some peaceful sleepy shots that we all want to remember. Also, i find babies do get a bit of hormonal rash after the 2 weeks mark. Don't worry if you miss the 2 weeks, as any memories captured with your family would be priceless, so if you want family photos at 1 month, it would be as amazing as the newborn phase.

  • Awake newborns are adorable too! I like to go with the flow with them and try to go with their cues. If baby prefers to be cuddled in parent's arms, i will conduct the whole session with you holding your baby.
