When to have your newborn session | Melbourne family and newborn photographer

The newborn stage is so sacred and it passes really quickly.

7 to 10 days

I would recommend you to schedule in your newborn photoshoot within 14 days from birth. Newborns at that stage are extra curly, sleepy and small. Ideally, 7 to 10 days old as they are relaxed, and do not have those hormonal baby acne/pimples.

Once your baby is born, send me a text to let me know and we can plan when within the 14 days, normally a day or two after you settle back home from hospital.

I love to capture baby details, like hair, tiny feet and fingers, lips, newborn snuggles and family portraits.

I would photograph you and your baby in your newborn bubble and your session will include parents and siblings as well. If your mom is there for your confinement, I would normally take some photos of grandma, mom and baby as well. As it takes a village to raise a child, I like to include family who is your support during the 4th trimester.

Newborn session are done in the comfort of your own home which is ideal if you are doing the 4th trimester confinement.

14 days to 6 weeks

If you had missed the newborn phase, don’t worry!

You will not regret any photos taken of your baby at any stage. Babies from 14 days to 6 weeks young are generally more alert, but we will definitely be able to photograph lots of baby snuggles, sleeping photos and probably a bath or breastfeeding.

Photo sessions with older babies can result in more ‘eyes open’ shots than sleepy ones. Super adorable!

It’s best to book in your newborn session during your last trimester, before baby arrives. As I take limited number of newborn sessions each month, so that I have the flexibility to move your newborn session date around depending on your baby’s birth.
